About This Project
Inner Thoughts is an art project exploring perception and bias. We take newsworthy photographs and imagine what the people in them might be thinking—then show how different cultural, political, and ideological perspectives would interpret the same moment differently.
Important: Fictional Content
The "inner thoughts" shown on this site are entirely fictional. They are artistic interpretations created to explore human empathy and the nature of bias. They do not represent:
- • Actual thoughts or beliefs of any person depicted
- • Statements made by any person depicted
- • Our opinion about what any person actually thinks
- • Facts about any person's character or intentions
This is satire and social commentary, not journalism.
Why We Make This
Every photograph captures a moment. But what we "see" in that moment depends on who we are. By showing the same image through different lenses, we hope to reveal something about how bias works—including our own.
The initial "Humanizing" thoughts aren't claiming to be accurate. They're a deliberate choice to start with empathy before showing how perspective shapes—and sometimes distorts—our view of the same human moment.
